Instead of a traditional interview, I spent a week in the field helping collect soil cores and was exposed to a whole new career path I hadn’t considered before. I learned that Formation works in so many diverse projects and capacities and I was excited by the variety, the unknown, and the room for creativity. Plus, everyone was so nice, smart, and welcoming. I could tell right away it would be a healthy work environment and that’s incredibly important to me. 

From my perspective, our success as a company is because of our ability to leverage each individual’s unique skills and input to find creative and effective solutions. It is rare in my experience that any one person works alone on any single task.  Instead, we work together to use one another’s expertise to solve problems and it has always been that way since I started working here over 7 years ago, even as the company has tripled in size. 

I did a 3-month internship in 2021 while I was majoring in Environmental Management and Protection at Cal Poly SLO. I was ready to get coffee or something like in the movies, but on the very first day I sat down at my own desk with two computer screens and started working. After graduation, I reached out and have been working full time for 10 months now.
